Wow talk about motivation!

Well it is Wednesday and I started my day with Jazzercise class. I just love starting my day this way. I try to do this at least 2-3 times a week.

Today, while I was in the room adjacent to the workout room, I could hear the instructor calling the class to order and sharing a few announcements. As she concluded she said, "I just want to let you all know I just found out I am pregnant and I may modify a few of the exercises for me as I progress." Of course all the women were congratulating her etc, and some asked if she would quit teaching the class. She said, "Oh, no, I will do this up to delivery if possible."

Wow, as we were working out today and I got tired or wanted to slow things up a bit, I thought, hey, she's pregnant and running circles around us, the least I can do is keep up!!

Those that know me, know I can be very competitive. Every once in a while I will say, oh I am or I can be competitive, and my friends or family will say "No kidding, I never knew." Being quite sarcastic in their tone, they know me well. So today I found myself pushing to keep up with this young pregnant woman. I'll be darn, if she can do it, my old butt should be able to keep up!

So, now each day when this girl, or I should say woman, is instructing, I have new motivation to keep up with her. If she can do, so can I! Congratulations to her and her healthy lifestyle and her wonderful news! And thanks for some new motivation in class!

Valerie, you are such a Bikinis and Bifocals Woman!

Have you seen Valerie Bertinelli on the cover of People? Don't know how you can miss it, they have had it on the T.V. news stations all weekend. Now is she a Bikinis and Bifocals woman or what? She is 48 and is wearing a two piece bathing suit!

I am not saying that because she is wearing a bikini/two piece, I am saying this because she has the confidence and attitude to do this. I love her blog and her attitude towards life now. Isn't that what it is all about? Have the attitude towards life that is positive, fun and sexy. That is what the bikinis stands for in our logo - an attitude, not that you need to wear one to be one of us, but to have that attitude towards life.

What attitude is that? That at any age, whether you are 40'ish, 50'ish or beyond that you still want to feel good, look good, be sexy and have FUN! When you have a positive attitude about life, life just gets better.

And the Bifocals portion of our logo brings it all together with the reality of women our age. Yes there are medical issues we must deal with after 40, BUT that does not mean we cannot be bikini attitude women! So many women seem to lose their confidence as they age and hide behind plain and old. NOT ME.

If you take care of yourself (look at how Valerie's hard work payed off) and seek information that will help you stay healthy you can be sexy, healthy, look great and have FUN.

Bikinis and Bifocals is all about attitude and lifestyle. I love Valerie's attitude and wish more women our age understood that as well.

I don't have goals that include a bikini, but I do have goals that include looking good in my clothes that are stylish and sexy. You don't have to wear a bikini to do that. But thanks Valerie for showing everyone, women can be sexy at any age. They don't have to be rail thin and they don't have to be 20'ish. In fact our life experience and wisdom adds to our sexiness and sassyness!

Now, doesn't that make you want to pass up the candy bar and go exercise!

Dancing is not only fun, but it's exercise too!

I have always loved to dance. No, I never took dance lessons as a child. We loved music and to dance for fun, but we never had the money, or even suggested, dance lessons.

But that did not stop me in the 70's and 80's! Disco watch out. We had great fun in those days. Dancing was such fun. Hey, we danced all night, or until the "Last Dance" and had to leave the bars. And just as many do now, back then, girls would dance together, just to get out on the dance floor and dance. Did I view dancing as exercise? I doubt it, it was a way to have fun.

I love those inspirational signs that say .... sing like no one is listening, and dance, dance, dance like no one is watching ... That is just about the majority of the dancing I do now, around the house, with no one watching. I love to put on music while cleaning, and jam around the house. Did you see Mamma Mia? I love the song, Dancing Queen, it is a great song with a lot of energy. Joking around the house when alone or kidding around with my husband, I do not think of dancing as exercise, it is just plan fun.

But you know, lately I have been looking for any type exercise tape that is not BORING. I have some I like, such as Leslie Sansone, Walk Away the Pounds, she is great. But to be honest, I get bored with that after a period of time. I even tried the Hip Hop Abs series. It is a workout, and somewhat of a challenge, but that even got boring after a while. Sorry Shaun T.

That is why I have been looking for a variety or a change in exercise tapes. And lately I have been thinking about some dance tapes for exercise.

My sister recently told me she had purchased a dance exercise tape. Not sure which one she purchased, but I found one at Costco the other day and thought, what the heck, I am just building a nice collection. So I purchased a Dance Off the Inches DVD. The one I purchased was the Dance it off Ballroom DVD. Well, I am just glad I can do this in the privacy of my home!!

This dancing is not fun, it is work!

The tape said Ballroom Dancing. I thought, how hard can that be? So I skipped the tutorial section and went straight to the full program. Oh my gosh, it was so hard. And this from a former dancing queen! I tried to do it in my office during my lunch break, but did not have enough room. So this weekend, I took the time to go through the tutorial and the full 40 minute exercise routine. Dancing is no longer fun, it is exercise! I mentioned to my daughter who was home this weekend that I had made it through the tape, and it was not easy. She made the comment, now you know why the dancers look so good and are in such great shape.

I realized while doing the routine, I don't have the coordination I had 25 years ago, nor the speed, but I love a challenge. Doing something like this does give you a greater appreciation for those who enter Dancing with the Stars, most notably the "older" contestants who compete. You have to admire all the contestants for the time and energy they put in the dances.

So, as I "dance, dance, dance with no one watching, I hope to master the Samba, Cha Cha and Jive! I doubt if I take the moves to the dance floor as the instructor suggests, but I hope to exercise some parts of my body while having a little fun. I am visualizing me in one of those great dance outfits they wear on Dancing with the Stars! With that in mind, my shorts should fit this summer.

In checking out the website links, I noticed there is a Country Line Dance DVD! Yew Haw! I think I will try that next! I will keep you posted on my progress. Dance, dance, dance ....... where are my Glucosamine & Chondroitin tablets?

Break an old habit, start a new habit

Well, I have come to the realization I am going to have to change one of my beloved old habits and start a new habit. I just hope I love it as much. That old habit is fixing my morning coffee, sitting on the couch, sipping coffee, watching the morning news, and easing into the day. I love starting the day that way. I am all alone in that section of the house, all the other members of my family are asleep and it is my time. I love it. I know, pretty simple, but hey, I love that time of the day. Any many times it is 5 a.m. or earlier.

Well, now you ask, what am I going to change? I am going to now start my day with brewing some coffee, have a few sips and slip down to my office and put in an exercise tape, exercise, and at the same time watch the early morning news. Sure doesn't sound as much fun to me, but I have decided I really need to try and start my day this way. I am not getting any exercise during the evening so I have decided to shake things up.

I have to admit, this morning it was o.k. I got through it, but I did not get started as early as I wanted and I got to work later than I prefer. But hey, at least I exercised. And you know, I felt better today. I think this may start my day off better and hopefully help get me back into a regular exercise routine. If I can have a habit of not exercising, I hope to now start a habit of morning exercise. I have resisted giving up my old morning routine. There have even been some mornings I have sipped coffee and watched various exercise programs! But looking over my day and what would be a good time to exercise, etc, I kept coming back to the morning hours as a possibility. So here I am, starting a new habit.

I have typically been a person who exercises regularly, walks a lot etc. But lately I have really fallen away from that. Recently, I have been thinking about this a great deal. Making a decision to make a change is the first step. Now I just need to stick with it and change my mind set about the day. I am also working on my mindset of focusing on eating right.

I find a lot of inspiration in various websites, articles, magazines etc. Several have been on our site, such as "Exercise Buddies", "Joint Friendly Workouts" and many others in our Health and Wellness Section. Another thing I am doing is keeping a journal. So we will see how this new habit goes and if it becomes an old habit. I will keep you posted on my progress.

With all the running around I do ...

As I was driving home Friday afternoon, my mind was wondering over some past and future events and, as so often I do, my thoughts led to something totally off the topic. I was thinking how busy I am, how I am always running around involved in something, and I thought "with all the running around I do, you would think my pants wouldn't be so tight!"

Like so many women my age I am fighting the battle of weight gain. It is not like I do nothing and the cause is inactivity etc. My life is quite the opposite. I am constantly going someplace, juggling a busy schedule etc. But now I also have to juggle the dilema of what pants fit this week!!! My choices of late are getting smaller and smaller.

Thinking about this issue, I had to admit to myself, my eating habits have probably contibuted to this problem.

One thing that really impacts my eating habits, and in turn the number of pants in my closet that fit, is this busy lifestyle. I don't' like to cook and when I am running (busy I mean, I hate to RUN), the last thing I want to do is cook. So I have found myself eating fast food more (yuck) and snacking for meals at home. I know, not good and not good for my pants issues.

So today is the first day of my eating better pledge. I guess as long as I at least have this on my mind and make a better effort it will help. At least I can tell myself that. What I know I need to do is exercise more. But like I said, I am running around all the time doing so much, it s difficult to actually find time to exercise. But yesterday I actually put in my 2 mile walking DVD and did that program. Proud of me!!

So here's to all the busy women I know. Take time for yourself, eat better today and hopefully more pants in the crowded closet will fit!!!

Spring is a season of hope!

I abosolutely love spring. The air is so fresh, the flowers are popping up thru the soil (in places I forgot I had flowers) and everything seems so fresh and new. It is a season that gives me such hope.
The other day I was pulling out of my driveway and the sun was coming up and I could tell everything was different, it was spring instead of winter. That feeling and realization gave me a real boost for the day. Having that type of feeling and attitude for the day made such a great difference in my day. I thought about it and realized I needed to make an attempt to keep that attitude as my spring attitude - to renew, refresh and keep a positive outlook.
In fact, this is going to be my time to really kick in my "new year" resolutions. I have to be honest on some of the exercise aspects of my goals I have been lack. But spring has given my goals a better meaning. Plus I went swim suit shopping the other day and that really gives you a new perspective on things such as exercise! Yikes!!!
So today is a new day, I am waiting for my ipod to charge up so I can go for a long walk and start my spring off new and charged.
The winter is over, well almost anyway, and today is a new day, make the most of it.
Later today and this weekend I will be adding items on the http://www.bikinisandbifocals.com/ website that deal with new beginnings, spring cleaning etc.
