Baby Boomer Women, we love lingerie too!

Baby boomer women so often are portrayed as old, frumpy women. Well, NOT. I do not accept that as a label for my friends and me. We are hot, fun women! Bikinis and Bifocals women! And we love lingerie just as well as the thin hot young models do.

It troubles me when the ads etc are only for young women. We love sexy items too you know. As well as our husbands!! I loved the line in the move Eat, Pray Love, when Julie Robert’s character, Liz, says to her friend (who was worried about gaining weight and her boyfriend’s reaction) “When a man is with a naked women he does not see any flaws, he just sees that he is in room with a naked woman!” How true, I loved that line and the simple truth behind it.

So this Valentine ’s Day wear the lingerie, have fun. Hey, my husband didn’t even notice a new chair in the family room for two days; I know he won’t notice a few pounds! Happy Valentine’s day.

Insomnia - Is this another issue baby boomer women are expect to just accept?

Insomnia is not one of the rewards I was expecting as I entered this next phase of life as a baby boomer woman!

Lack of sleep all starts when you start a family. (Well actually it started before that. College and as a young professional it was work, nap, go out at night, sleep a little, work …. But that is not the point here).

As mothers we rarely have a sound night’s sleep while raising our children. We sleep light in order to hear our babies. As they grew they woke us up, when they got their driver’s license we stayed up worrying, ... Get the point?

Now the children are all grown and gone and we can now enjoy a night of sleep. But wait a minute! No mentioned to me, now as a woman in her 50’s, I get to enjoy Insomnia! A friend mentioned just yesterday that her doctor said “it is just part of aging”. She asked those of us who were there, “is that true? Is this something we just have to accept? “

Of course we all had various comments, but I have to admit, I have thought about her question and it was the reason for this blog.

Is this something we just have to accept? So many other aspects of our health and life we haven’t “just accepted”. So why should this be any different? It is so disturbing that there are so many doctors out there that use that comment as a reason or explanation. Check out local health clinics and seminars such as my friend's monthly sessions at Louisville Pharmacy.

I was searching through Google images for something to symbolize insomnia for my blog and other items and found that most of the women models were shown in bed, looking at a clock that said 5 or 6 a.m. Heck, if I sleep till 5 or 6 a.m. I had a great night’s sleep! The models and photographers surely are not over 45!

What have you found that works, doesn’t work? Please share with us at my Insomnia Friends Group in the Community Section on Bikinis and Bifocals.com.

How not to act OLD - lesson two.

Well, the article I read recently said nothing about dress. But something I think that is important in the lessons on not looking or acting old is how you dress. In fact, one way to instantly look old is wear outdated, baggy clothing. Comfort does not mean you have to look frumpy and old. Since the article I recently read on how not to act old did not address this pet peeve of mine, I am providing this lesson on one of my rules on how not to act/look OLD.

I guess one of the reasons this is on my mind is something that happened recently. I attended a seminar last weekend and one of the women doing the presentations had on one of those shift dresses nuns and teachers wore in the 60's and 70's. All I could think is, are there places that still sell those horrible items or is she one who never gives anything up?

Being comfortable does not mean you have to look horrible AND old. Or old fashioned and outdated in both your look and your outlook on life. I have an endless amount of fashionable clothes AND they are all comfortable. I don't wear the clothes that are uncomfortable. There are two categories of clothing - there is that which we wear at home that is comfortable and that which we wear out that is comfortable. AND, as far as I am concerned, never the two shall meet.

So, lesson two, my lesson for you, is to don't wear outdated clothing, and that which makes you appear dumpy and unshapely. Just because you have gained some weight, or some of the aging process is presenting some health issues, does not mean you have to look like you don't feel well, an possibly older than you actually are. In fact, get a hair cut, put on some makeup, a smile on your face and something decent looking and see how it changes your day. Being positive about your looks can change your day, the way others treat you and how you feel about yourself.

I have a friend I met through some of my networks, and she has recently launched a great new website. Easy Style is dedicated to helping women wear clothes that compliment their body, http://www.shopeasystyle.com/. Check it out, it may be the answer you are looking for to help you NOT act or look old. They also have a facebook page, click on the logo to the right to connect to the facebook page.

There are numerous sites, shows etc that help you dress for style and your shape. Many department stores have very talented salespeople who can give great advice, etc.

So, how not to Act OLD? Dress stylish and not in clothes so comfortable people will wonder how recently you got out of the hospital. Wearing clothing that is frumpy, dumpy and unattractive can make you appear much older than you actually are. Positive attitude towards all aspects of your life can be life changing. Best of luck.

Valerie, you are such a Bikinis and Bifocals Woman!

Have you seen Valerie Bertinelli on the cover of People? Don't know how you can miss it, they have had it on the T.V. news stations all weekend. Now is she a Bikinis and Bifocals woman or what? She is 48 and is wearing a two piece bathing suit!

I am not saying that because she is wearing a bikini/two piece, I am saying this because she has the confidence and attitude to do this. I love her blog and her attitude towards life now. Isn't that what it is all about? Have the attitude towards life that is positive, fun and sexy. That is what the bikinis stands for in our logo - an attitude, not that you need to wear one to be one of us, but to have that attitude towards life.

What attitude is that? That at any age, whether you are 40'ish, 50'ish or beyond that you still want to feel good, look good, be sexy and have FUN! When you have a positive attitude about life, life just gets better.

And the Bifocals portion of our logo brings it all together with the reality of women our age. Yes there are medical issues we must deal with after 40, BUT that does not mean we cannot be bikini attitude women! So many women seem to lose their confidence as they age and hide behind plain and old. NOT ME.

If you take care of yourself (look at how Valerie's hard work payed off) and seek information that will help you stay healthy you can be sexy, healthy, look great and have FUN.

Bikinis and Bifocals is all about attitude and lifestyle. I love Valerie's attitude and wish more women our age understood that as well.

I don't have goals that include a bikini, but I do have goals that include looking good in my clothes that are stylish and sexy. You don't have to wear a bikini to do that. But thanks Valerie for showing everyone, women can be sexy at any age. They don't have to be rail thin and they don't have to be 20'ish. In fact our life experience and wisdom adds to our sexiness and sassyness!

Now, doesn't that make you want to pass up the candy bar and go exercise!
