A Boomer Woman Who Knows About Cruising!

A favorite boomer woman who knows all about "cruising" is my friend Kathy Collins. Kathy is an agent with the company Cruise Planners. And let me tell you, she knows the ins and outs of cruising.

Boomer women love to travel and we are always looking for fun and wonderful places to visit. Gone are the vacations planned around our children and husbands. We are traveling for our enjoyment now! If the husband or significant other is included all the better, but if they are not interested, it is not stopping us!!!

Kathy will be celebrating her 7th year with the Cruise Planners franchise this year. Working with an agent with this amount of experience is a great way to go. Plus with someone at her level in the company, she can offer some great perks etc for your cruise experience. In fact, Kathy just passed on to me, that January through March is probably the best time to book due to so many specials offered during this period.

Bikinis and Bifocals worked with her to put together a group cruise and it was great fun! In fact, putting together a trip for small to large groups of women is something she loves to do. Kathy is a warm/friendly person and I think you will enjoy working with her. Never cruised before or have questions? Check out the various aspects of her website and get that cruising feeling today!

I have to say, a cruise is one of the most relaxing vacations I have enjoyed. And Kathy was a help in making it all seem easy. Happy Cruising!

Mark Your Calendars - May 30!

I don't know about many of you, but I was so sad the day I heard Sex and the City series was coming to an end. That show is my all time favorite. Some may say they did and said things they wish they had the nerve to do or say, but there were many of us who identified with much of what they said or did. Do you remember 30 something!? There was a time I identified with some of the events they lived thru while on TV, but Sex and the City, that is the best.

I loved their honesty with one another and oftentimes with men. The times they shared with their good friends were priceless. Although the show was about a few baby boomer friends who went through many events and stages of life - there are many lessons younger women can learn from it also.

The reunion movie, and it looks like Big and Carrie's wedding, will be at movie theaters Friday May 30! Get your friends together, have dinner, tell stories on one another, and enjoy the movie together. This is a great opportunity for a girls nite out! We are planning one, although we plan many, but this one will be special. Did I tell you I have a copy of every season!? They came in handy one New Years day when I was too hung over to do anything else. It was great, I cried, ate sweets, and by the end of the day felt better both physically and mentally. Because I knew I too had great friends in my life I loved and made a difference like they did for one another. If you have girlfriends who mean a lot to you, good for you , celebrate and go see the movie. Have fun, I know we will!

They must be Noticing

Well, perhaps we baby boomer women are making an impact after. Actually, I had no doubt we would, after all we have changed so many aspects of society as we have progressed through life.

But the element I am talking about today is the clothing market. I had a couple conversations this past week that highlighted that we as baby boomer women have a voice and it is being heard. A friend of mine mentioned to me that Victoria Secret was changing its marketing approach, because it has lost of our generation's sales. Well, I like their product, but she is right so much of it is just too way out there for me. I want something I can wear and use. Well, I guess they finally figured it out that it is the baby boomer women who made them rich. Not our young daughters. Most of us have been purchasing their items for them from Victoria Secret as well.

Another conversation I had was with my daughter. She mentioned that several stores she once liked to shop virtually has no junior department at all now. Gradually it has gotten smaller and smaller. Well, I thought, I guess those stores have realized what generation has been purchasing their clothes, my generation. I somewhat felt sorry for my daughter, but felt a victory for women of my generation.

As we say at Bikinis and Bifocals, we want to feel good, look good and live a great life. PLUS we want a variety of nice clothes that make us look current, not foolish, and look stylish and great. It is nice to have more and more to choose from. It is also great to know the market is paying attention.

My next concern are those short jackets, with the cropped off sleeves, but that is another blog.
Have a great day.

Never Too Late

This past year has been new beginnings for me in many ways. The main theme is "life has just begun" each day. Each day is a gift and life at 52 is great. This is my first attempt at a blog, and sharing my thoughts on life over 50 and much more. One thing I have discovered this past year is attitude is so important. It can change everything. I guess I am that glass half full person. Baby Boomers have changed history, our world and it is so exciting to be a baby boomer and in this age group. There are so many things I want to do and just not enough time in the day, and I think that is exciting. My best friend and I have started a movement, Bikinis and Bifocals, we think it displays the attitude and lifestyle of women our age. We want to feel good, look good and have a great time at this time of our life, BUT there is the reality of health related issues we must deal with. But you know what? Deal with it, go on, move on, life is short, they are temporary road blocks to a lot of fun and adventure. I have raised the kids, paid for the house, worked to build for retirement, now the time is for me!! And so far it has been great fun!
