Some events include something for your health such as a walk/run event. Not only do you contribute something for a charity but you will also get up early and do something for your health. That's a win/win for everyone. I love those type events.
But more and more there are events that range from $20 upwards that you can attend, contribute to a cause and have a fun night out.
Our organization, Bikinis and Bifocals worked with a group of our women, the South End Girls, and hosted a fun event for women on a Sunday afternoon in September. It was a great success. We had a huge crowd, raised more money than projected and saw old friends and made new ones. Not only did the organization we were supporting, Gilda's Club, benefit but we felt like we did too.
Having worked on several community fundraisers, I quickly realized that these events could never be a reality without great sponsors. Our event last month for Gilda's Club was sponsored by the Kentucky AAA and Dr. Gerald O'Daniel as well as Texas Road House. Their support was awesome and we truly appreciated their generosity. Along with their support a variety of businesses throughout the community were very generous in donating a wide variety of items for our fundraiser.
There is an event next week in our area to raise money for the Center for Women and Families. It sounds interesting, different and fun. A local limo service is having their garage turned into a gala location! That will be interesting to see. The event is called the R&R Limousine Driving Home a Difference Garage Gala on November 15. They are going to have two live bands, food, etc. All for just a $20 donation in advance! Where can you go for $20 these days and get all this. And again you are helping a great cause. I have a link in this blog if you want more details.
If you have never attended anything like this, they also have raffles or silent auctions. This is somewhat like shopping, and everyone knows how much I love to shop. Oftentimes the items are unique and well worth the donation. I have won a day at the race track, beauty treatments, gift certificates to name a few.
Another thing I have found from attending, or volunteering, at events such as this you meet those who are involved with the organization and learn if it is something you want to get involved in. You can learn a lot about the people and the organization. Some I have found are not for me or my money and others have shown me they are passionate about the cause and their mission and I target my talents and money to them.
Looking for something to do over the weekend or an evening during the week? Check your local newspaper or business journal. And of course you can check online too. But most publications are always willing to post info about a charity event. Being a big believer in giving back, if you don't at this time in your life have time to volunteer for a community effort, perhaps attending one of your choice this year will be your way to give back, and have fun!
To those who volunteer and donate to a community cause or national charity - Thank You! Every donation of time or money makes a difference. Have a great week.
