"You are over-weight"

I don't know about you, but those are the words I dread. Not about me physically, as much as my luggage! It is so stressful when you are traveling and you have to worry if your luggage may be over the weight limit. Recently my husband and I traveled home from Florida and we both heard that dreadful statement - "your are over-weight".

I travel a great deal and typically pack with room for additions from my travels. But there is always that worry that my luggage will be "over-weight". And it is such a disappointment when I get to the airport and my luggage is more than 5 pounds under the limit. Darn, I could have shopped some more!

This last trip to Savannah the ticket agent asked if the larger piece of luggage was mine! NOT, actually it was my husbands. Mine was the cute luggage with the designer symbols! It seems more and more we are both getting closer to that limit. So much so, he is no help when I need some extra space for items. His luggage is full too!
It seems to me there should be a built in scale on our luggage. Or some weight standards we can use for judging when shopping and traveling. I have a former co-worker who said while on a business trip she came across an unbelievable sale and had to purchase more luggage to get everything home! That is my kind of woman!

We have gotten into the habit of weighing our luggage before we leave on a trip. That gives me a good indication of how much I can possibly add. We use a little inexpensive scale we found through a travel agent friend, but you can get them at places like Target, Walmart or on line.

I also saw one in the travel magazine on the plane, a little more expensive but it may pack a little better if you want to take it with you on trips.
You see, my husband has been putting on more and more pounds lately, not physically, but he is taking more and more paper items with him on the trips. Now that can really add to the weight of your luggage. Save a tree, if possible save to a disc or ship separately. That is what we always did when I went on business trips, shipped all the binders and paperwork to my office, never would I use up valuable luggage space!
I haven't checked lately but any of the new phones include a scale? I am working so hard attending jazzercise classes and watching what I eat, I know I am not over-weight. So when I hear that even if it is my luggage, it is not something I take lightly! Safe travels.
