Seems like you see articles titled like this every summer. I don't seem to see articles like this in the winter. Is it that people are preparing for vacations and looking for books to read? Or is it, it takes a full year for most of us to read all the books we picked up the year before and had good intentions of reading on vacation? Who needs suggestions like this in between?
I love to read fiction. But I just don't have the time like I once did. Now that there are blogs, facebook, websites etc to keep track of. But with going on vacation recently I did pick up a few books and enjoyed them.
One book I read early this summer was Best Intentions by Emily Listfield. It was entertaining, and most women would enjoy the twist it takes for the main character. It is interesting and sad what our mind can do to us or lead us to believe, if we let it. I think most women my age will enjoy this book, we have all been at this stage in our relationships at one point or another. I am sure there is something in her life everyone can relate to. Does keep you guessing and you may have a different opinion as to how Lisa reacts and what she does.
One thing I intend to do before future travels, however, is plan a little more in regards to my reading selections. I have enjoyed fiction that was centered around various cities or historic events. And many times I wished I had read a book earlier, or before I had visited that place etc. One that comes to mind is Abundance by Sena Jeter Naslund. It is a wonderful novel of Marie Antoinette. Oh how I wish I had read this before or while we traveled to France a couple years ago. I loved Versailles and this would have given it a more romantic meaning. (Instead of me thinking, I will scream if I have to get back on that bus!) Naslund's writing tells the untold story, particularly of women who have been marginalized or misunderstood.
In the airport to our Ft. Lauderdale/Bimini trip, I picked up a Dan Brown novel. Great book, I like his writing, but the topic was set in the Artic - Deception Point. I wish now I had found something set on a beach or tropics!
With all my upcoming travel this and next year, I need to do a better job of selections in relationship to my trips. My goal in the next few months will be to seek out some great reads for several of my trips. Something set in Hawaii, Europe or perhaps Germany.
I am one who always has a bag of various items to read. Not just novels, but magazines, newsletters, newspapers, mail, you name it. But is is always nice to have a great book to pick up if you have some down time or a lot of time to kill. I love it when I have a book that is difficult to put down. They make even the longest layovers in an airport almost bearable!
Any suggestions out there? I would love to hear them.
