Move towards the positive, you will have more energy!

As I began my new habits for the new year, I had an "ah-ha" moment the other day.

One of my goals for the new year is to clear out the clutter. Each day I have cleaned out a closet, pantry, anything where "stuff" has just piled up. Each day, no matter what I am doing, or what I have done, it seems that when I begin my clearing out process on an item, I seem to gain a great deal of energy.

This happened the other day, I was tired, we had been out late the night before and it was a rather slow day around the house, but when I decided to attack a new area for clearing out and organizing, I seemed to get a renewed burst of energy. Mid-way in the process of clearing out, I realized how energized I felt. It was then, I realized one of my "ah-ha's". I mentioned in an earlier blog, move towards the positive instead of away from the negative and you may have better results. Well, it was that day that I was living the reality of that belief. I realized, moving towards the positive is energizing and gives you more energy. Moving toward being organized is so positive that it gives me energy instead of bogging me down with a task that I don't like. In the past I seemed to have focused on the clutter and the confusion and could not seem to move away from that. But as I focus on the positive - being organized, clean, clear, it seems to give me more energy. The results are so positive and a motivation to keep going.

I have been focused on this, and it has cleared out a lot in my house. So much so, I was concerned that my husband would not be able to budge the trash can and get it to the curb for garbage day! That baby was full. But he never complained, and I noticed on garbage day it was at the curb that morning.

Also, as I move towards a clearer living space I am also focusing on living healthier. No more old stale food staring me back from the pantry, plastic dishes that are not healthy to use, or clutter that just makes keeping things put in their place difficult. Each day I am making my life more manageable and more organized. Also, there is no level of work that I view as a success and another as not. In other words, if one day I only have time to clear out the veggie crisper's in the frig, then that is a success. Large areas such as closets etc are great when cleared and organized, but a drawer or some files is a great success too.

This train of thought is a little more difficult with exercise, however. I was riding the exercise bike the other day and really wanted to quit, so I thought well I will try to focus on the positive. So I closed my eyes, peddled like crazy and thought about being able to fit in a bathing suit this spring. It helped a little, but I am not sure if it was a positive thought of my vision in a new suit, or the fear of looking awful in a new suit that motivated me to peddle faster. Oh, well, everything is not a perfect fit, but I sure like doing things that now energize me rather than focusing on the negative and being discouraged from trying.

Find something positive you want to bring into your life this year and move towards it. There are plenty of negative things to focus on, and they seem to just stare us back in the face, an usually win in staying. Focus on the positive, it makes things much more fun.

Happy New Year
