I recently stepped into a conversation that included two young men who were talking about their girlfriends. These two men are very disciplined and routine. They were joking about how messy their girlfriends cards were. "I can't understand it" they were both saying.
While they were discussing this, I have to admit, my thoughts turned to my car, and what the inside of it looked like. Would it pass the test with these two young men? NO.
I thought about my car and what these men had said and I have come to a conclusion why many women have cars with a wide variety of things in it. Our cars are an extension of our purses.
Think about it. We carry a lot of important "stuff" in our purses. As we raise our children they expect us to have whatever they may need at the time in our purse, our husbands depend on us to have what they need in our purse and we carry everything we just may need in our purse.
In fact, the other night, my husband asked me if I had a needle. I said, no. And later thought, what would make him think I carry a sewing needle around with me? But you know, everyone thinks we have what they need in our purses!
So, doesn't it seem logical that our cars are an extension of our purses. An extra sweater, or an extra pair of shoes. These are things we cannot carry in our purses. Or a box, or a cup, or perhaps a poncho, or an old magazine, etc.
As I glanced thru my car that night before I went home, I decided that is the best explanation why there are so many items in my car. So many things I need to take out and put away, but these are also things myself or someone else may need! Sounds like the best reason not to clear out my car! Hmmm, I wonder if there is a sewing needle in my car?
You have to find humor and a reason for everything!

Mary Poppins did us all in. She gave everyone the impression we have everything in our purse or bag!
